ModelsThe following models are available. All these models requires WeaverBird version 2009v1 to run. They all have an active text front end that guides you through their use. PolphonyThe largest model is Polyphony. This is used to describe IT applications from a functional point of view. It is used as an alternative to paper-based documentation, and, before application development, as a way to expressing the functional specification. To learn more about Polyphony, go to the Polyphony page by clicking here. Electronic Brochure to Promote Disk SwitchesThe model shows a diagram of an IT configuration with or without a disk switch, and then, by a series of commands, shows how you can move an application from running on one machine to running on a different machine. The time taken to process the commands is shown in a timing bar that grows as you process the commands. This example shows how a small model with a dynamic diagram helps make your argument in an attractive and effective way that actively engages the reader. To download this model, click here. IT OverviewThis model gives an overview of the IT system and is designed to show management and IT staff how, in broad outline, their IT systems work. It shows which applications run on which servers, which servers reside in which locations, the dataflow between applications, the business tasks that use the applications and the software technology used to implement selected functionality. This tutorial explains some of the performance issues of multi-tier applications, for instance showing the effects of queuing. To download this model, click here. A Visual Directory for System Software Products. This is a directory of system software products. It generates diagrams that shows the relationship between product, functionality and platform. Because both the diagrams and the text are generated from the underlying model data they are guarantees to be in sync. You can restrict the diagram by vendor, by platform or by software functionality. The directory allows you to identify alternative products quickly and find descriptive texts for each.
